Welcome to Dr. Campbell’s Couch!

This blog started off as a refuge for me. I wanted to have a place to sit and reflect on things I wondered about, things that impacted me, and explore things I had observed as a therapist.

Here’s the thing though… I realized that I wanted that for you too. I wanted you to have a place to sit, relax, and think. I like to visualize my favorite spot where the temperature is just right and the snacks are free.

Life can be overwhelming at times. When that happens I find strength in being able to retreat to “my place” in order to recharge and rest. I get to restore myself however I need to. Sometimes I’m not able to physically get to my favorite place, so I like to imagine it.

No matter what happens we all need a place.

  • A place where perfection is not expected, nor is it encouraged.

  • A place where candidness and vulnerability will not end in punishment or ridicule.

  • A place where you can connect with yourself authentically and at your own pace.

So come on in! Get your free snacks, get a drink, and have a seat on Dr. Campbell’s couch. This can be our place.

4 Lessons on Grief We Can Learn from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is a masterclass on how grief permeates and surrounds us all. It challenges us to develop a more nuanced relationship with loss and empathy. The film normalizes the idea that we are not required to be the same person we were before grief or loss occurs. It teaches us to work around our grief, cultivate a relationship with it, and it declares that we are allowed to be changed by our grief. " - Dr. Bryanna Campbell

Getting Advice from Friends: How Much is Too Much?

Many of us find comfort in checking in with our friends from time to time to hear their thoughts, opinions, and ideas about concerns we bring to them. It can help us to feel more connected and part of a community when we feel that the people around us have our back. Sometimes our friends can see things from perspectives we have not considered and since they often know our “blind spots” they can help us develop a more well-rounded point of view, so why not ask them for advice? The question is, at what point is asking friends for advice too much?
