About the Author

Hi everyone!

Allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is Dr. Bryanna Campbell, and I am a licensed psychologist. I enjoy helping others feel empowered to be themselves, and helping people authentically connect with themselves and others. I enjoy being involved in the growth and discovery process for anyone who allows me to be a part of their world. I have a passion for helping people learn to help themselves.

My clinical interests include: interpersonal concerns, attachment, anxiety, depression, family of origin concerns, adult children of immigrants, life transitions, race-related stress, and self-compassion along with other concerns.

My dissertation focused on the relationships between racial identity, racial socialization, self-esteem, and impostor feelings in Black and African American adults. Much of my clinical work has focused on making mental health conversations more authentic and relatable in the Black community through the use of humor and being genuinely approachable. I believe one of the best way to help people help themselves is with access to information, so I created this blog to do just that - to inform and encourage reflection.

Whew. *looks around*

Now that we’ve gotten the formalities out of the way…let me realllly tell you about me. I tried to find a professional photo of me sitting behind a desk or me seriously contemplating life in a stoic pose but, no cigar. That’s just not me at the moment.

I am a psychologist that enjoys the informal, real moments. You’ll probably catch me reading a book, watching TV or movies, playing with my dog, or ordering pho at my local Vietnamese restaurant. If I don’t feel like having pho, you will catch me ordering rice and peas, curry chicken, and cabbage from the local Jamaican spot.

Whenever I meet someone I like to know the little “fun facts” about them. I mean if we’re going to spend time together we should know some things about each other right? So here it goes:

  • I’m the child of Caribbean immigrants

  • I love listening to podcasts (The Read and The Friend Zone are some of my favorites)

  • I loved Archie comic books as a child (Archie and Betty ftw)

  • Comedy is my favorite TV/movie genre

  • I LOVE to laugh and connect with people through humor

  • Having petty conversations with my friends truly makes me happy

  • I am an introvert

  • I typically prefer to be the observer, not the do-er, so this blog challenges me to do!

That seems like enough for now. If you enjoy this type of content, be sure to follow me on IG @drbryannacampbell
